Overview
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is one of three Special Pathogen Treatment Centers (SPTCs) in the state. However, Cedars-Sinai is unique because it is the only federally designated Regional Emerging Special Pathogen Treatment Center (RESPTC) to treat patients with Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), various viral hemorrhagic fevers (VHFs), and other high-consequence infectious disease (HCID) pathogens for all of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Region 9. These areas include American Samoa, Arizona, California, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Hawaii, Nevada, Republic of Palau, and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
Cedars-Sinai serves as one of 13 federally funded Level 1 RESPTCs in the National Special Pathogen System (NSPS), which is coordinated by NETEC, as designated by the U.S. Congress. Cedars-Sinai serves as a regional resource for special pathogens preparedness, response, and clinical research, playing a vital role in national HCID preparedness and response.
