Disaster Resource Centers (DRC)

Overview

The Disaster Resource Center (DRC) program was developed to assist the healthcare community work together regionally on emergency preparedness, response, and recovery. The DRC program is comprised of thirteen hospitals and one community clinic association, geographically located) throughout LA County. The County is divided into nine DRC regions. Each DRC is required to

coordinate five meetings with umbrella hospitals and coalition partners (i.e. Ambulatory Surgical Centers, Clinics, Dialysis Centers, Long Term Care, etc.) that collaborate with mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery activities. All hospitals and coalition partners are encouraged to participate in the DRC's annual regional HVA, tabletop exercise, and the Statewide Medical and Health Exercise.

Each DRC region is responsible for coordinating one decontamination drill with all Emergency Department (ED) umbrella facilities. All HPP hospitals with ED have decontamination capability that provides 24/7/365 coverage with ongoing training. They participate in exercises and drills, the hospital surveillance program, and HAvBED daily reporting through the ReddiNet® System.

The recipients of the Hospital Preparedness Program (HPP) grant funding allows for the enhancement of surge capacity through the provision of ventilators, pharmaceuticals, medical/surgical supplies, and large tent shelters to provide treatment to victims of a disaster or large-scale emergency. The DRCs store and maintain PPE, a Local Pharmaceutical Cache, a

Medical/Surgical Supply Cache and also provide storage for the Chempack program. DRCs support the county's health care coalition through their DRC umbrella regional meetings within the DRC's geographical area.
