Overview
The “EMS Provider Disaster Preparedness Workshop” is a focused training program designed to equip emergency medical service (EMS) professionals and first responders with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to respond effectively to large-scale emergencies and disasters. This workshop provides an in-depth look at how the emergency management system functions and the critical resources available to first responders, including but not limited to Fire Operational Area Coordination (FOAC) and ChemPack deployments, along with an interactive MCI triage exercise component. This workshop is ideal for EMS providers seeking to enhance operational readiness, improve coordination during disasters, and strengthen life-saving response skills. Target audience includes MICNs, EMTs, paramedics, nurse educators, and other licensed EMS provider agency personnel.

Describe the roles and responsibilities of EMS providers within the Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS).
Explain the principles of START triage and patient prioritization.
Identify and demonstrate the principles of hemorrhage control
Roles and responsibilities during a special pathogen encounter of a suspect patient
Explain the purpose and activation criteria for ChemPacks
Perform a role in the mass casualty incident exercise
Describe the FOAC's role during a disaster
Lectures and skill sessions
Interactive demonstrations and hands-on participation
Functional exercise
Immediate exercise evaluation and feedback
6 hours of pre-hospital EMS (MICN, EMT, and Paramedic) continuing education units provided
This workshop is approved for six (6) hours of pre-hospital EMS continuing education units
Pre-Hospital CE approved by the L.A. County EMS Agency (MICN, EMT, Paramedic) EMS CE Provider #19-0001
A certificate of attendance and pre-hospital certificates will be emailed out to participants after the course
